Shining A Light On Springfield
The BGA policy team is expanding its advocacy and civic engagement efforts to the state’s capitol. This greater Springfield presence enables the nonpartisan BGA’s policy staff to connect more effectively with state legislators on both sides of the political aisle. That outreach enables the BGA to continue its mission of fighting for meaningful reform laws that promote government openness and accountability while also helping to make government, at all levels, more efficient and responsive to the public.
Moreover, the BGA is partnering with major Springfield media outlets while hosting, and participating, in community idea forums and other grassroots events.
The BGA intends to engage with everyday people over its local and statehouse good government agenda, especially the issue of "Smart Streamlining", a mainstay BGA project that seeks to shrink the number of Illinois’ nearly 7,000 units of government through legislation and community initiatives. In addition, BGA President and CEO Andy Shaw and BGA staffers meet with numerous civic and business groups throughout Springfield, and downstate, to discuss and build support for the Smart Streamlining initiative.
