Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel agreed to slow down his bid to establish a new financing vehicle designed to repair and upgrade public works projects.
In a procedural move today, Ald. Edward M. Burke asked to defer a scheduled council vote to approve the new infrastructure trust.
The length of the delay is at least six days.
The mayor’s move comes a day after the BGA sent an open letter to the City Council recommending the vote be deferred, or the trust be voted down, because of the many questions and concerns surrounding the mayor’s unique financing approach, including the need for greater public accountability and scrutiny.
The trust also came under fire from some aldermen earlier this week at a city Finance Committee hearing.
