Update: The submission window has closed for the 2018 Awards.

The BGA is now accepting submissions for the 2018 Awards. Before you start your submission, four important changes of which you should be aware:

1. ONLY ILLINOIS:  Historically, The Richard H. Driehaus Foundation Awards for Investigative Reporting recognize the best in government-related investigative reporting in the Midwest. While we were honored to award work from beyond our state, we’re excited to make this an Illinois-centric award going forward.

2. INCREASED PRIZE PURSE: Thanks to the generosity of Richard Driehaus, the purse for the Awards has increased from $18,000 to $25,000 — $15,000 for first place, $7,000 for second place, and $3,000 for third place.

3. MULTI-PLATFORM ELIGIBILITY: In years previous, a print component of your investigation was required to apply. This year a print component is not required, and we look forward to seeing and hearing investigative work from T.V., radio and other non-traditional journalism platforms.

4. EASY, ONLINE SUBMISSION: We’ve entered the 21st century!

DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS: Entries must be submitted by Monday, Feb. 19, 2018 — midnight into Tuesday.

ABOUT THE AWARDS: Judged by a rotating panel of journalists and media educators, the awards highlight the impact of investigative reporting as a reform tool within the context of state and local government waste, fraud and corruption. In addition to using credible and impressive investigative techniques, the winning entries will have made significant contributions to inform the public on issues of government corruption and prompted reforms.
