The Better Government Association (BGA) seeks an intern to work in the development department. The candidate will gain a solid understanding of nonprofit fundraising, grant writing, prospect research and database skills needed to navigate and be successful in a development department of a not-for-profit organization. We're a small office that spends a lot of time with interns. No coffee fetching! Expect to participate in meetings, be involved and contribute your own ideas.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Daily activities will include researching prospective foundation and individual funders, creating prospect profiles, writing/editing grant proposals and entering notes and actions in Raiser’s Edge. Other activities may include calling donors, assisting with event planning and compiling info folders for potential donors.
We are looking for a bright, ambitious intern who is in college or graduate school. The ideal candidate should be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite. Raiser’s Edge or other constituent relationship management database experience is a plus. An interest in local news, civic engagement and investigative journalism is preferred. A desirable candidate must be able to multitask, have excellent organizational skills, be deadline-oriented, have the ability to work independently, be energetic and eager to learn.
The BGA is an independent, non-partisan government watchdog--we work for integrity, transparency, and accountability in government by exposing corruption, waste and inefficiency.
