On a visit to one of the existing coal-fired power plants that Gov. Pritzker hopes to phase out by 2035 as part of his clean energy plan, potential GOP gubernatorial candidate and 13th Congressional District representative Rodney Davis stated that the Prairie State Energy Campus in Marissa, located south of East St. Louis “is the cleanest coal-fired power plant in the nation,” he said during his June 18 visit. “The company is actively pursuing and adopting additional carbon sequestration and storage and emissions-reducing technologies, and they should receive support from state and federal agencies for their efforts.” Investigative reporter Kiannah Sepeda-Miller fact-checked his statement and discovered he couldn’t be farther from the truth.
Tune in to ABC-7 Saturday morning after 8:30 a.m. to catch the latest Weekend Watch segment where we focus a spotlight on government. Director of Investigations John Chase will discuss the fact-check, what the truth is about the Prairie plant according to experts, Davis’s response, and the opposition around Pritzker’s clean energy plan.
