Foundation and Corporate Relations Grants Writer

The BGA is a nonprofit and nonpartisan organization that combines investigative journalism, advocacy, and civic engagement to promote better government in Illinois. The BGA seeks a Foundation and Corporate Relations Grant Writer to support the fundraising efforts of the BGA. 

This position is responsible for advancing strategies to generate significant contributions to the BGA from corporate and foundation communities through growing a portfolio of new and existing prospects. Primary responsibilities include management of strategies to secure funding on an annual basis from corporations and foundations, preparations of grant proposal/applications and development and implementation of stewardship strategies for the retention of corporate and foundation support

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates the identification, cultivation, and solicitation of corporate and foundation support for BGA programs and projects. Plans and manages solicitation strategies for corporate and foundation support.

  • Acts as a grant writer for the BGA, generating well researched, well written and well-documented grant and fundraising proposals and supporting documents in response to solicitations.

  • Act as a liaison with program staff – working directly with program managers in the development of grant proposals.

  • Maintains and implements grant cultivation activities including calendars, records, files, progress reports, and financial reporting.

  • Retains business relationships with corporate and foundation giving officers. Ensure fulfillment of recognition, acknowledgments, and management of reports and solicitations for corporate and foundation donors and contacts, externally and internally.

  • Works with BGA leadership on the implementation of comprehensive funding strategies for program and project support. Research prospective foundations and corporations to increase the BGA’s funding.

  • As a member of the development team, contribute to the achievement of the BGA’s strategic and annual operating plans.

  • Maintain and regularly communicate with a small portfolio of foundation and corporate donors; maintain records and files and manage the timely submission of progress and grant reports.

Qualifications:

  • B.A. degree required

  • 3 to 5 years of progressive work experience preferred

  • 2 to 3 years non-profit grant writing required; proven track record raising money from foundations

  • Excellent writing and communication skills; ability to write clear, structured, articulate and persuasive proposals; strong editing skills

  • High-level of maturity and professionalism required, including the ability to work with discretion and use professional judgment especially when dealing with sensitive issues

  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail; strong time management skills

  • Excellent computer skills and experience with fundraising data required

  • Ability to work well in a team environment, manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
