About the role

As a grant writer for the BGA, key responsibilities include:

  • Develop and submit proposals, reports, letters of inquiry, and other grant-related materials, under the supervision of the director of development.
  • Research potential funding opportunities to meet identified funding needs; recommend prospects and solicitation strategies to supervisor.
  • Work with supervisor to determine preferred funding areas; goals, objectives, scope, feasibility, funding needs, due dates and funding sources.
  • Oversee grant calendar, ensure all proposals are submitted by deadline, and maintain tracking system of past and future due dates of grant proposals and reports.
  • Assists in the maintenance of the Raiser's Edge database, tracking and updating funding prospects, submission/renewal and reports deadlines, grant documentation, and deliverables and accountabilities.
  • Collaborates with staff members across the organization in the development of accurate, timely, and compelling submissions to current and prospective funders, including finance, employee services, information systems, and data management and program teams.
  • Assures compliance with all funder specific guidelines and requirements.
  • Participate in the production of donor communications including donor appeals, newsletters, impact reports and brochures.
  • Maintains a thorough understanding of the organization's services, goals, mission and strategic direction.
  • Help set the tone of the department to ensure morale, teamwork, and that the positive employment culture of the organization is maintained.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related field and two years of recent grant writing experience
  • Previous experience fundraising for nonprofit or higher education
  • Experience raising money from foundation sources preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain positive relationships, take initiative, and manage multiple relationships and deadlines efficiently and effectively
  • Experience with budget development and monitoring
  • Knowledge of fundraising information sources
  • Knowledge of basic fundraising techniques and strategies
  • Possess excellent communication skills, particularly in writing ability
  • Must be computer proficient and possess experience of Microsoft Office Suite (e.g. Google Mail, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel) as well as fundraising databases (Raiser’s Edge)
  • Able to organize and handle multiple tasks, assess and change priorities based upon agency needs, and quickly adapt to changing deadlines
  • Possess a collaborative work style and ability to work creatively in both an independent and team environment

Compensation and Benefits

Salary will vary depending on the candidate and will range between $50,000 - $55,000, based on experience. This full-time position includes medical, dental, and vision insurance; 10 vacation days; 15 days of sick leave; paid federal holidays and three floating holidays; and a 401(k) with employer matching.
