Solutions Reporter

A 2022 Pulitzer Prize winner, the Better Government Association’s mission is to achieve transparency, equity and accountability in government — for everyone. For almost 100 years, the BGA has vigorously pursued its mission by producing investigative journalism, advocating for good-government reform, litigating to defend public access to information, and mobilizing the public to achieve change. We are looking for a veteran journalist to serve as its first in-depth solutions reporter, as part of the Illinois Solutions Partnership, an ambitious collaboration between the BGA and Robert R. McCormick Foundation.

Are you an accomplished journalist with a firm understanding how local and state government works and willing to search the country for solutions to the myriad of problems facing Chicago and Illinois? We want to hear from you. This position will bring an investigative focus to solutions journalism; analyzing, vetting, explaining and questioning approaches to problems and then provide an authoritative perspective on how these tactics could or could not work in Illinois.

The ideal candidate will also write with a strong voice and produce a weekly government-focused newsletter that leverages his/her expertise in the subject and becomes a destination for those wanting to know what is going on in Chicago and Illinois when it comes to government news.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

Salary range for this role is $65,000 - $72,000. The position also includes medical, dental, and vision insurance; a comprehensive paid time off package; and 401(k).
