John Chase

Director of Investigations

John Chase is the director of investigations at the Better Government Association. He was named to the post after 18 years as a general assignment, political and investigative reporter for the Chicago Tribune.

At the Tribune, Chase specialized in local and Illinois politics and government. He covered dozens of elections, including for Chicago mayor, Illinois governor and U.S. Senate. As an investigative reporter, he wrote extensively about Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Illinois Speaker of the House Michael Madigan. Prior to that, he covered the administration of former Gov. Rod Blagojevich and later co-wrote “Golden,” a book on the scandal-scarred former governor. Prior to the Tribune, he worked for the Daily Herald, the City News Bureau of Chicago and the Logansport (Ind.) Pharos-Tribune. Born on Chicago’s Northwest Side, Chase received a bachelor’s degree in journalism and political science from Indiana University.
