Mayor Lori Lightfoot introduced her proposed city budget for 2023 on Monday, Oct. 3. City Council begins meeting on Thurs., Oct. 6 for a twelve-day series of departmental budget hearings, at which budget staff and department heads are available to answer questions from the alderpersons.
This budget season, the Better Government Association’s policy team is providing snapshot analyses for each day of departmental hearings. Each daily snapshot will include:
- Each department’s proposed net and percent change in funding and staff from 2022 to 2023
- A listing of all specific appropriations and positions with an increase or decrease from the 2022 budget to the proposed 2023 budget
- Highlights of and context for major funding changes from 2022 to 2023
