In early 2019, Mayor-elect Lori Lightfoot invited more than 400 civic leaders from throughout Chicago to join an external transition team to help chart a course for the new administration. (The group’s report can be found here.) 

On April 21, members of the team’s Good Governance committee sent a letter to Lightfoot reminding her of her pledge to run a transparent, accountable and accessible government.

The letter is a response to the mayor’s stated opposition to an ordinance that would create a comprehensive public database of completed police misconduct investigations. The records would be proactively published on the web portal maintained by the Deputy Inspector General for Public Safety, relieving the public and the city of the burden of routine FOIA requests. 

BGA Director of Policy Marie C. Dillon was among those who signed the letter, which is shared below.
