- Nix nepotism. Cook County’s IG and top ethics officer co-author a new report condemning the hiring of family members by county officials. The Sun-Times says that despite the report, the county’s new assessor, Joe Berrios, is standing by the hiring of his son and sister for jobs in the office.
- Food fest.Editorials in the Sun-Times and the Trib support the licensing of food trucks with cooking facilities to operate virtually anywhere in Chicago, despite the opposition of the restaurant lobby.
- Amnesty angst. Southtown Star columnist Phil Kadner raises questions about the fairness of a state amnesty program that covers back taxes owed for online purchases.
