The Better Government Association and two dozen media and good government groups from across Illinois signed a letter asking Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker and Attorney General Kwame Raoul to resist efforts to weaken the Freedom of Information Act during the COVID-19 emergency.

The letter, authored by the Citizen Advocacy Center, urges Pritzker and Raoul to oppose the Illinois Municipal League’s campaign to suspend the statutory deadlines for responding to FOIA requests until after the governor’s emergency order expires.

“The Governor’s Office and Attorney General’s Office must not forsake public trust by allowing public bodies to avoid their obligations under FOIA,” the letter argues.
