Last month we asked you to urge your elected officials to send mail-in ballots to all eligible voters for the November election.  SB 1863, signed this week by Gov. J.B. Pritzker, requires election authorities to send a ballot application to those who voted in the three most recent elections.

While this measure is a step in the right direction, it falls short of the Better Government Association’s recommendation to send a postage-paid ballot to all registered voters.  Still, your outreach helped make sure lawmakers took action on this important issue and we’re grateful.

The BGA remains committed to a safe and fair November election. We cannot risk a repeat of the disruptions that occurred in the primary election due to COVID-19. Long lines and crowded polling places put voters and election workers in danger.

In the coming months, we will again ask for your help in promoting measures designed to ensure safe, fair and open elections. So stay tuned.
