An emergency election law for 2020 allows Illinois voters extra time to apply for mail-in ballots, which in turn provides election officials with time to prepare for what they hope will be a big expansion of vote by mail. The idea is to protect your right to vote in the Nov. 3 election, even with COVID-19 still lurking.

The law also expands the dates and hours for early  voting and includes provisions to make all in-person voting safer.

So know your options and plan ahead to be sure your vote is counted.
